Fundament Build

May 18, 2010

From rough lumber to finished frame.  The Fundament lounge is fairly simple but, because of the angles involve, require attention to detail to insure it all comes together well.  The mortise and tenon construction is also another example of something that is simple in some regards, but not necessarily the most simple to execute.

This Fundament is actually burned to achieve the jet black color.  The burning actually highlight the rays in oak, making the finish much more interesting than a stained or painted finish.

The finished chairs are sculptural and very angular in appearance, but are surprisingly comfortable for all of those angles.  The angle of the seat and back gives great support for the lower back and it great for casual lounging.
